How old is the most risky weight increase

The more weight you are, the more likely you are to have health problems.

According to a study released on Tuesday (07/18/2017) by Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, weight gain in early and middle adulthood will increase health risks later in life.

People who have moderate weight gain (2.22 - 10 kilograms) before the age of 55 years increase the risk of premature death, chronic illness and decrease the chances of getting healthy old age. The higher the weight gain, the greater the risk.

'This study systematically examines the relationship of weight gain from early to mid adult with major health risks later in life,' said senior researcher Frank Hu, who is also a professor of nutrition and epidemiology and Chairman of the Harvard Department of Nutrition T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

The study analyzed data from 93,000 participants where their weight was weighed at the age of 18 to 21 years and was revisited 37 years later. The results found that the average woman gained 10 kilograms weight, while men rose an average of 8.6 kilograms. And those who gain more weight also suffer more disease.

'The findings indicate that even a small amount of weight gain can have health effects,' Frank says.

Worse, early and mid adulthood is when most people just increase Because their metabolism slows down, is more prone to injury, and becomes less active in their 30s and 40s because they have to work longer and have greater responsibilities than when they were in their 20s

Another study from Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health and the University of Cambridge in the UK last year mentioned that overweight or obesity was associated with the risk of premature death.
In addition, in 2013, 500 researchers from more than 300 global institutions belonging to the Global Mortality Collaboration BMI (Body Mass Index), states that for every increase of five units in BMI (from, say, from 30 to 35), it increases the risk of death Due to heart disease by 49 percent, 38 percent for deaths from respiratory illness and 19 percent for cancer deaths.

BMI calculates weight, muscle, fat and bone in relation to height and sex. BMI 25 to 29.9 are considered overweight, and those with a BMI of 30 or more are considered obese; While unhealthy obese people have a BMI of 44.9 or more.

It's also important to know that the danger of being overweight is greater in young people than in older people, and in men than in women.

In essence, there are significant health risks associated with being overweight. 'Doctors need to advise patients on the dangers of overweight that include the risk of developing type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer and premature death,' said Shilpa Bhupathiraju, a research scientist at the nutrition department at Harvard Chan School of Public Health.
